Jax's mini sliders
Another one of my party food classics - mini sliders. Instead of dropping these on the grill - I bake my patties in this great sauce so it retains it's moisture AND it frees up the grill for all the other million things that need to be on there. This is one of my most requested item to bring whenever our friend's are having a barbecue potluck. Top the slider with potato chip (Maui chips) for just that extra crunch!
1.75 lbs of ground beef ( 85%/15% is best)
A dozen mini King’s Hawaiian bun ( sliced in half horizontally)
1 can of condensed French onion soup
½ cup of plain bread crumbs
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup of ketchup
1/4 cup of water
1 Tbsp of Worchester sauce
1/2 tsp of dry mustard powder or 1 Tbsp of any mustard you have on hand
½ a medium onion into thinly sliced rings
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Combine ground beef, 1/2 a can of condensed French onion soup, bread crumb, pinch of salt and as much pepper as you would like. You can use a spatula but I definitely find it easier just to use my hands ( washed of course!) and mix everything well together... think of it as Playdoh lol Once it is all incorporated divide it up into 12 portions and start forming them into patties. The patties may look large but once we brown them it will have a little bit of shrinkage.
Using a large fry pan coat it with oil and heat it on medium high. Once the pan is nice and hot then slowly lay down the patties in batches making sure to brown each side of the patties until it has a nice sear ( think of a burger on a grill) It does not have to be completely cooked through. Place these patties in a 9' x 13' casserole dish or a deeper cooker sheet lined with foil will work.
Mix the remainder of the can of condensed French onion soup and all the sauce ingredients. Top the patties with the thinly sliced onions and pour the sauce over it. Bake for 40-45 minutes making sure to check halfway to flip the patties to make sure they are well coated with the sauce.
Once the patties are done you may now arrange your sliders. Make sure to use the nicely caramelized onions in the burger as well and top it however you'd like. I've listed a few of my fave toppings above but really you can get super creative with this =) Sometimes I will toast the Hawaiian bun a little with slices of cheese but really have free rein here and make it your own!
